Hello friends, this is your friend Abhi, welcoming you all to my blog Abhi Knows All where I tell you about some of the coolest things which you will love to know. I bring more entertaining and informative stuffs every time so make sure to follow me from all social networks (see upper right corner for details). Well my today's article is a best guide for those people who are planning to buy a new smartphone and are pretty confused about that. You are checking phones on different websites and got confused by checking their specifications and positive/ negative responses and reviews. You are visiting your nearby shops and you got confused by shop persons as they exeggerate some common features of their device and try to divert you with their schemes.

So as for your help, I am here with a new guideline which will not only give the idea about basic and important specifications of any smartphone, also help in you choosing a best smartphone which fulfill your demands.

1. Budget-

First of all, set a budget for your smartphone which may be below Rs.10000, 15000, 20000, and so on. According to me keep your budget slightly flexible. I mean, if your budget is Rs.15000, but you have seen a better and more specs smartphone worth Rs.16000, then you should go for it.

2. Your Need-

Okay, now your budget has been set. Now it's time to see what's your need in a smartphone is-
  • Camera
  • Gaming
  • Socializing
  • Movies & Songs
  • Powerhouse
  • Office Works

Here, you only have to do is arrange the above basic needs in a decreasing order (arrange in higher priority to lower priority).

As an example: Gaming on top, Camera, Socializing, Powerhouse, Movies & Songs, Office Works

By prioritizing like above. You can clearly understand your top requirements. The above example is for gamers so you should go for better processor phone and make a compromise with little lower camera quality

Note: No smartphone can be said as best. You have to choose which suits you perfectly.

3. Build & Design-

Well, this is also a major part to ensure before buying a smartphone. It is necessary to check the body, it's shape, look, toughness, etc. Some devices are full metal body where some are of plastic or glass coated panels. It is always advisable to understand the toughness and built quality of any device before purchasing it. Keep it in mind that there's nothing unbreakable.

4. Display & Resolution-

After design and build quality, the next thing which we will check in any smartphone is its display and its size and resolution. There are mainly 2 types of displays- LCD & AMOLED. LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display whereas AMOLED stands for Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode. LCD screens produce some of the most realistic colors you can find on the screen whereas AMOLED offers wider contrast ratio (darker darks and brighter brights).

Now talking about size; for such persons whose movie and gaming priority comes at the top, I will suggest you to get a smartphone of display size 5.2 inches and above. Rest people may go as per their choice.

Note:
  • More the display resolution, better the gaming and movie experience.
  • For socializing or for other purposes you may do a compromise with display quality.

5. Processor-

Your all activities in a smartphone is depends upon the processing power of your device. There are several factors which effect the device's processing power are OS version, bloatwares, UI and many more.

For hardcore gamers, video composers or heavy users, you have to opt for devices having better processors such as Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 and above or Mediatek Helio X20 (MT6797T) or above.
For non gamers (for socializing, camera or other purposes), here you can go with slightly low processors.

6. RAM-

Many phone companies put you in a greed by showing more RAM sizes like 3GB, 4GB, 6GB. Here we need to understand that quantity doesn't matters but quality does. Yes! Its good to have RAM 2GB and above for playing games smoothly.

Some terms come with RAM are DDR, LPDDR, etc. DDR stands for Double Data Rate & LPDDR stands for Low Power Double Data Rate which means that LPDDR RAM will save you battery while giving you smoother performance.

7. Storage-

Well storage of a device depends on you. Do you use your smartphone as an external hard disc ( my savings lots of movies, music or bigger apps). Is your answer is yes, you may need 64 GB and above storage otherwise you are good with 16 GB or above storage.

Nowadays many smartphones come with USB OTG support which means that you can attach a pen drive or a hard disc on your smartphone for storing and managing large data.

Most of the smartphone have the option for expanding internal memory with micro SD card. If not, must check it have USB OTG supported or not.

8. Camera-

The most important component of any smartphone after RAM and Processor is its camera. It is not necessary for me to tell why it's important. Many of you here are selfie lovers, photography enthusiasts, or a casual shooter. So let me explain you need briefly.

Take it in mind that more number of megapixel doesn't mean that the camera is better. The megapixels does not the whole thing about the camera. Some other specifications must be kept in mind are its aperture ( lower the aperture, better the photos even in low light), pixel size, resolution, ISO levels, autofocus, etc too. So a 20MP camera doesn't necessarily be better than 16MP camera if it has better aperture, pixel size, etc.

For those whose camera priority is higher may go with 12MP or above sensor under f/2.0 or less aperture. Casual shooter may compromise from this specifications.

9. Battery-

Battery life is yet another thing which you need to consider while purchasing a smartphone. Take it in mind if you are planning to buy a higher display and higher processor device or if you are a heavy user, you may need at least 3500 mAh or above battery to run full day properly. For an average user, 3000 mAh or up would be great.

10. Operating System & UI-

Nothing to talk more about this topic. If you are Android user, simply go for Android 6+.
You can change the UI as well as OS if you root your device later. Over nothing much have to say now.

11. Extra Features-

Some extra features you can find on the device are NFC, fingerprint sensor, IR blaster, dual tone lens, Dolby Atoms, etc. It is a blast. If your device have any of these features.

So these are the 11 things you need to consider while buying a smartphone. I have briefly put all the important points about smartphone in this article which will help you to understand about your basic needs and requirements and you will go according to your demand. Here is a thing in brief; set your budget, set your needs prioritise them and buy. That's it.
